The age old argument about which came first, the chicken or the egg, certainly could equally apply to computers and software. Sometimes computer hardware should be configured according to the software you plan to run. Consider the different requirements that would be needed for a power gamer versus a machine used only to access the Internet, these machines would be much different. The machine built for the power gamer, while perfectly capable of accessing the Internet, would be very expensive overkill if that is all it were used for.
